Introducing Quilt Queen

Quilt Queen by Maria ElkinsI want to introduce you to “Quilt Queen.” I just finished her on Friday, but thought sharing her with you today would be a great way to start the new year! She’s just 24″ square, and I created her as a way to experiment with different ways of using a glue stick in quiltmaking, which will be the topic of an upcoming “Out of the Toolbox” article in Quilting Arts magazine.

Queen Queen is definitely not part of the “quilt police”! Instead, she is kind and benevolent, eager to learn every new technique that is available to us today. She’s generous and willing to share with others, but also respectful and open to advice. She is encouraging and not critical. She’s curious and loves to experiment with new products and tools. Of course, she has a sense of humor and can laugh at her own mistakes! She goes to quilt shows, reads quilt magazines and peruses the quilt blogs so she can see other quilters’ work, but has her own sense of style. She is everything good and sweet. She is unique.

I think I want to be more like her in this coming year!

    Do you know when the article comes out? Be sure to let me know when you hear so I can alert everyone…saw the re-run of your Color Theory piece on Quilting Arts this weekend…really nice…

    1. In the next issue or the one after. I get confused! Would you believe I missed the QA TV show again? Gonna have to pull out the DVD if I want to see myself ๐Ÿ™‚

    Maria, had the pleasure of watching u twice this week. Was great! Is your method of making silhouettes on a QA website somewhere. If my children would get busy and take a side view photo of our 2 yr.old grandson, I’d like to make one of him. At least before he is 3 !!! Or is it on your faces DVD ? Have a blessed New Year!     1. Darn! I missed watching the show both times! The silhouette technique is written up in the June/July 2011 issue of Quilting Arts magazine. I also blogged about it a few times.   4. I did get to catch you on QA tv with my mom’s help of DVR. A friend hopped on with my suggestion and in planning on making faces (silhouettes) too.

    Interested in hearing about what you did with a glue stick for this quilt. I’m all ears! I just signed up for the free motion challenge at your suggestion too. You’re just getting me into all kinds of trouble!
