George has arrived!

I am delighted to announce the arrival of George December 30, 2011 37 lbs. 29 by 18 inches 7:17 p.m. (Yes, I was in labor ALL day!) And, yes, it came with the red bow I love that it arrived in a box that says, “Caution – Extreme Excitement Bundled Inside* * Contents may cause excessive hugging, squealing, jumping, and fist-pumping!” (I also love the fact that this last sentence is written like it’s blowing in the wind because the machine was earned because Windblown won a big award at the IQA Houston show!)

I finally have a design wall!

I’ve always wanted a design wall, but we live in a fairly small house. I’m extremely blessed and thankful that I have a dedicated space for my stuido area, and I like that it is a part of the family room so I’m not isolated. But, I have too many things that I have to fit in my studio and there is no possible way to have a completely empty wall for a design wall. I told you earlier about my portable design wall, but there isn’t even room for that in my studio. Over the [ ... ]

Tutorial: jelly roll Kitchenaid mixer cover

I caught my family’s enthusiasm for making Christmas gifts this year. We were at a friend’s house (she’s the one who picks me up every month and drives me to our quilt guild meetings), and we were admiring her beautiful new RED kitchen cabinets. She mentioned that she wished her Kitchenaid mixer was red, too, instead of white. Well, that planted a little seed, which took a good week to sprout, and a few days before Christmas I went to work. I know she likes playful fabrics and batiks, so I dug through my cubbyhole of red fabrics and [ ... ]

Hubby’s portrait Christmas gifts

I already told you that Sweet Hubby decided he needed to give my “Making Faces” technique a try. He wanted to make portraits for Christmas gifts to give to some friends who we’ve known for about twenty years. In his excitement, while we were in Colorado, he even bought his own fat quarters. Earlier this month he started on his first portrait. Now that the gifts have been given, I’m excited that I can finally show you his portraits. He did almost all of the cutting himself. I just did some fine-tuning and quilted them. [ ... ]

Merry Christmas to all!

VidCast from 2011 IQF Houston

Bonnie McCaffery has done another fabulous job reporting on November’s 2011 International Quilt Festival in Houston. If you weren’t able to attend the show, here’s your chance to see more than 12 minutes of video. In it are some of the most amazing quilts, along with short interviews with some of the quilters. Bonnie interviewed me (!) and that clip is at about 7 minutes into the video. Be patient; it may take a while to download since the video is so long. Hope you enjoy it!

DD#2 finished portrait gifts

I told you that DD#2 wanted make some portraits as Christmas gifts. I greedily encouraged that idea because it would mean she’d have to come to my house numerous times. I already showed you the little boy, which was first portrait she made. He’s the youngest of three siblings. Here are his two older sisters. DD#2 just fused them, but didn’t quilt them. That way the family can insert them into 8-1/2″ by 11″ document picture frames of their choice. Didn’t my sweet daughter do a terrific job? I can’t [ ... ]

I’ve been keeping secrets

I’ve been keeping secrets this week. On Monday, sweet hubby and I decided to add a member to our little family. George will be coming to live with us. He is expected to arrive sometime next week! (No, I didn’t have to wait nine months — it was more like nine years.) I had been wanting to get a sewing machine that was a little bigger so it would be easier to make large quilts. Beth Schillig was kind enough to show me her George when I was at her house last week, and she even [ ... ]

Beavercreek News-Current

The Beavercreek News-Current, a small local newspaper in our town, did a nice article on “Windblown” winning the award at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. (Thanks, Jodi!) I knew they were writing an article, but didn’t know when it was going to be published until a friend at church said one of her relatives saw it. Isn’t it fun how the grapevine works? You can see the full article on line at xeniagazette.com.
