We had a great Thanksgiving with wonderful, out-of-town friends. Thankfully, no Black Friday madness for us! None of us relish the thought of being crushed by crowds. Instead, the men did male-bonding stuff and went to the Air Force Museum, while we stayed behind in peace and quiet and I taught them how to make fabric portraits. I let Brynn, Susan, and DD#1 rummage through my fabric stash to find colors they liked, and the fun began!
Brynn and Susan both picked photos of little girls they sponsor through Compassion International. DD#1 picked one of herself and her boyfriend. I just watched and ate too many fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies 🙂
Brynn made a double portrait, taken when she was visiting her sponsor child. She gave the little girl a princess crown, so we attached fusible rhinestones to the crown. Brynn also used sparkly princess-purple fabric. Because Brynn’s photo looked better cropped square, she ended up making a 10-1/2″ square portrait.
This is Susan’s portrait of her sponsor child, a little girl of about eight.
Lydia loves detail-oriented work, so she spent extra time adding very small details, which made her portrait very nice.
All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend the day with friends.
