I’m taking part in SewCalGal’s 2012 Free-Motion Quilting Challenge this year. Diane Gaudynski was the guest teacher for February. She’s one of my favorites! Her quilts are drop-jaw gorgeous!!! So today I spent some time playing with feathers.
I decided to use a fat quarter of Kona cotton, which I divided into three panels so I could experiment with three different feathers.
For the first two feathers, I used 60 wt Bottom Line thread. For the last one, I changed to 40 wt Highlights. It was fun [ ... ]

Resisting. Such an interesting concept. I find it somewhat humorous that during the same time that I’ve resisted moving out from under my warm heating blanket, I have also been planning and preparing to work on my next article, which most likely will be on resists. Hmmm… There’s probably some profound connection there. I don’t think I have the energy or inclination for deep thinking right now, though.
Honestly, I haven’t gotten much quilt-related stuff done this month, despite looming deadlines. Maybe I’m under a vague depression. Maybe it’s just the gray winter weather and lack of sunlight. It’s so [ ... ]

I’m so very proud of my sweet hubby, I just had to brag about his amazing achievement! He has always enjoyed making up and telling fantasy stories to our two girls as they grew up. Several years ago, he felt inspired to write a fantasy adventure story based on the Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 6:3, “Do you not know that we will judge angels?” So, in his spare time, between working a full-time job driving a school bus and pastoring a growing church, my husband used his abundant imagination to create a fictional scenario where twelve people must unravel [ ... ]

I’ve been putting my cupboard-door design walls to good use this week as I’ve worked on class examples for my Perspective for Quilters workshop.
I know many quilters who want to be able to depict realistic images, but they get bogged down when it comes to drawing something in perspective. For instance, a cabin in the woods, or a window, or even a simple cube. If you know a few basic steps, however, these things become easy!
