Sheer Whim at NQA Show

My sweet hubby and I had the opportunity to go to the NQA show today, and I was thrilled to see that “Sheer Whim” won a third place ribbon in the Art/Innovative category. (Sorry for the lousy picture! Can you believe I only took one, and it was fuzzy? Oh, well.) It was lots of fun seeing the 400 quilts in the show. I was paying special attention to the machine quilting, and ended up taking 173 pictures! I’ll have to take time to enjoy the pictures over the next few weeks. Somehow I also came home [ ... ]

I’m a calendar girl on my first blogiversary

Today is my one year anniversary of starting my blog! I can’t believe I wrote 180 posts in that time. Today is also the first day of May, so thousands of people around the world are changing the page on their 2011 Quilting Arts calendar and seeing my “Strawberry Delight” quilt. (Unless, of course, they’re like me, and they forget to turn the page until half way through the month!) I’m always a bit surprised at how far in advance publishers need to be working. For instance, I entered this contest in February 2010, and found out in May 2010 [ ... ]

So, hop on over to Quilt Inspiration and see my “Teacup” and “Evening Star” quilts. Thanks Marina and Daryl!

Quilting with Machines

Yesterday my sweet hubby and I drove our hand-me-down RV up to Huron, Ohio to see the Quilting with Machines show. I also registered to take a couple of classes with Patsy Thompson. My first class was bright and early at 8 AM. I hurried in a few minutes late, but once I had everything set up, it was great fun. Tomorrow I’ll post pictures of some of the feathers we made. As soon as my class was over, we went down to see the quilt show. As I understand it, this show is specifically focused on the machine [ ... ]

Reason to celebrate!

Today I received a reason to celebrate! I was in Panera with my mom after bringing her to the dentist when I heard my cell phone ringing in my pocket. The fact that I even had my cell phone with me is rather shocking. The fact that I heard the ring above the noontime noise at Panera was amazing. So I ran outside so I could hear and I was dumbfounded. It was IQA (the International Quilt Association) calling to tell me that my quilt “Sheer Whim” won an award for the upcoming Houston show!!! I won’t find out which [ ... ]

Surprise prize package arrives!

I got a surprise knock on the door today. It was my faithful deliveryman dropping off this package from Quilting Arts. It’s the prize package that I won when they chose my quilt, “Strawberry Delight,” for the 2011 Quilting Arts calendar. How exciting! There was Jane Dunnewold’s “Art Cloth” which was on my Amazon wish list; the newest “Studio” magazine that I had not ordered yet; a slew of DVDs; even some fabric, batting, and angelina fibers. I know what I’ll be doing this weekend!

2010 NQA show

Today my mom and I had the opportunity to see the NQA (National Quilting Association) show in Columbus, Ohio. My dear hubby played chauffer, so we were pampered with door-to-door service. The show was really nice; very well laid out, wide aisles, great vendors, terrific quilts. Everything you want in a good quilt show! Plus, I was thrilled that my quilt, “Captivated,” won an honorable mention ribbon. Yeah!

2011 Quilting Arts Calendar Girl

Just found out that “Strawberry Delight” was chosen to be included in the 2011 Quilting Arts calendar. The theme of the contest was “Flavor of the Month” which made me think of the pictures I had taken of some little kids eating ice cream. I used a modified version my “Making Faces” technique to convert the photo into fabric.

Captivated Wins!

My quilt guild, the Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild, had their show this past weekend. It was so much fun seeing all the quilts! At this show, instead of having a judge, each viewer is given a ballot so they can choose their favorite in each category. I was thrilled when “Captivated” won the viewers’ choice award for the Art Quilt category. There were a wide variety including traditional pieced and appliqued bed quilts as well as wall hangings and art quilts. This year there was also a special section to show quilts made during workshops or for guild challenges. [ ... ]
