New blue things

To get myself in the tea party spirit, I treated myself to a new blue-and-white tea mug. Since I’m going to be inundated by burgundy and lavender for the next six months, I thought I should prepare myself first by getting one more blue thing. It’s been nice sipping hot tea in my cold studio while perusing Pinterest, daydreaming about warmer times. I thought now was a good time to get a covered cake plate, too. I’m going to need to be able to make birthday cakes for the new grandchild, and you can’t eat the whole cake in [ ... ]

Sapphire Star – complete!

Sapphire Star is now complete! I decided that waiting another six months to finish just wasn’t going to work for me. I wanted it done! But, last night we had movie night at our church. What’s a girl to do? I quickly trimmed the quilt, cut some binding, and sewed it on by machine. All that was left was the hand sewing. I grabbed my gear and we were off for movie night. I sat in the back row and pulled out my handy-dandy Verilux Natural Spectrum Book & Travel Light. This [ ... ]

Exile and giveaway

Exile. How sweet the word! Sweet hubby and I decided to exile ourselves this week. Away we flew in Dad’s RV, away to a nearby, not-to-be-disclosed location, away from phones, away from email, away from the rest of the world. We got to our destination, plugged in, and hunkered down. Yes, there was snow on the ground, but we were warm and toasty inside. We watched movies and read and ate ice cream and pretty much just sat around until our rear ends were sore. Then we laid down and watched more movies. We only left the RV to treat [ ... ]

Improvised marking

Today was Craft Day at our little church. It’s a really nice time where the ladies can all gather together for food and fellowship. We each bring whatever craft we like and sit and work and chat. Ahhh…relax! I grabbed the Sapphire Star quilt I’ve been hand quilting. It’s been sitting for several months and I really need to start working on it more regularly. Anyway, I got to church with the quilt, my needles and thread, and my thimble and peacefully began quilting. I’m just doing a simple running stitch 1/4″ away from the [ ... ]

Life happens

Last week was one of those “life happens” week. It would be untrue to say that I quilt full-time. No, there are many other responsibilities that crowd in and take precedence. Those things may very well be enjoyable to me, and I certainly wouldn’t want to eliminate them, but they still keep me out of the studio. I spent a couple of days with a photo shoot. It was time to get some decent pictures of some of my quilts. Even though I continually encourage people to document their quilts, there were a few that I had not [ ... ]

Traveling with my iPad and Baggallini

I don’t think I’ve mentioned how much I’m loving my iPad birthday present. My sweet hubby did good! The only question was how to carry it when I travel. I generally don’t carry a purse. If I can’t fit it in the pocket of my jeans, either I don’t need it or I ask sweet hubby to carry it. But sadly, sweet hubby isn’t always with me everywhere I go. Plus, when I travel, I need to carry my camera, cell phone, chargers, etc. I figured I better break down and buy a travel purse. I haven’t carried a purse [ ... ]

I’ve been keeping a secret

I’ve been keeping a secret. And it’s blue Today is my birthday! A big one… Usually we just go out to a nice steak dinner, but this year was different, probably because it is the big one. This year my sweet hubby gave me an iPad 2 for my birthday, and the secret is that he gave it to me last month! I’ve spent a good amount of time getting to know it. Okay, truthfully I’ve spent a lot of time playing Moonlight Lite mahjong and reading my blogs. I’ve downloaded lots of interesting apps, but haven’t explored them [ ... ]

Curtains?

My nose is buried in preparations for a “Making Faces” workshop I’ll be teaching next Saturday in Dayton, but still I dutifully prewashed the fabric I bought at Ikea on Wednesday. After it was washed and dried, I tossed in on the couch that sits in front of our living room window. Light bulb moment! I stood on the couch and tucked the fabric over the top of the curtain rod. Hmm… I think I really like this as a curtain… “Honey, what do you think? Maybe we could run down [ ... ]

Making use of available space

Three friends and I went on an Ikea adventure today. Our limitation was we had to be in and out in less than two hours. Not as easy as it sounds! I was looking for the Bygel containers to hook over the edge of the mini wall on my work table, but they were no where to be found. So on to the fun adventure of coming up with a different solution. I considered several different possibilities and finally decided on the Dokument pencil cups. Once I got home, I snipped two [ ... ]

Cosmic Jewels quilt top is complete!

I finished piecing together the blocks for the Cosmic Jewels quilt. (Its new name is “Sapphire Star.”) I did end up changing that one fabric that was bothering me along the right hand side. I decided to leave everything else as originally designed. Next I’ll start digging around for some batting to use up. Since this will just be a wall quilt for my home and is not intended to be a show quilt, this might be a good time to use up some odd pieces left over from other quilts. As I was pressing the quilt top, [ ... ]
