Giveaway: two issues of Quilting Arts

Here’s a short and sweet post. I have two April/May 2012 issues of Quilting Arts magazine to give away. This is the issue that has my product review of Lapel Stick, a fabric glue stick that I used to make an entire quilt without using fusibles or even straight pins. But there is so much more in this issue, you won’t want to miss it. I feel like you shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to win something. Just leave one comment below. (US residents only, please.) I’ll draw two names on [ ... ]

Exile and giveaway

Exile. How sweet the word! Sweet hubby and I decided to exile ourselves this week. Away we flew in Dad’s RV, away to a nearby, not-to-be-disclosed location, away from phones, away from email, away from the rest of the world. We got to our destination, plugged in, and hunkered down. Yes, there was snow on the ground, but we were warm and toasty inside. We watched movies and read and ate ice cream and pretty much just sat around until our rear ends were sore. Then we laid down and watched more movies. We only left the RV to treat [ ... ]

Product review: deColourant

The December 2011/January 2012 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine came out. It has my product review of deColourant and deColourant Plus. The article summarizes the discoveries made during my play day with Lisa Quintana, Susan Pickrell, and Debra Bentley. In short, deColourant is a fun product to play with, but it requires some experimentation to get good results. I could see how some textile artists would love using it, especially because it does not change the feel of the fabric at all, but it is messy and a little fussy. For the way I [ ... ]

Give away: winner of QA magazine

I’m working hard at catching up with all of my obligations. Let’s just say the last several days have been a bit crazy. In the process, I didn’t get to contact the winners of the Quilting Arts magazine on Friday. But, I wanted to make sure I got it checked off my to-do list today. The extra added bonus, however, is that I now have three magazines I can give away! So, the three winners are… Linda, Melissa, and Cynthia Perny! Congratulations! I’ve sent you both an email. Please send me your mailing address so I can put these [ ... ]

Product review: Pentel Gel Roller for Fabric

It can be tough traveling, but sometimes the biggest challenge is returning home to the piles of mail and catching up on emails, not to mention reading blogs! I actually like to decompress with a cup of coffee and surround myself with the piles and savor it while sweet DH does the laundry. This time, nestled in our stack of mail were copies of the latest Quilting Arts magazine. Inside is my first column reviewing products that are of interest to art quilters. The column is called “Out of the Toolbox” and I’ll be doing a total of six columns [ ... ]

Give away: winner and fusible rhinestuds

On Tuesday I was diligently finishing up my “Glorious” challenge quilt. Tuesday was kind of a crazy day for me, so I never got around to giving you a progress report. We had to turn in our challenge quilts on Tuesday night. (They will all be shown at the next quilt guild meeting.) Not wanting to get done too quickly (wink!) I started trimming my quilt about 6:30 Tuesday morning. We did our morning walk and other routines. By lunch I had the binding and label on. I decided to sew [ ... ]

Published: portrait ornaments

I got my advance copies of the 2011 Quilting Arts Gifts magazine! Inside you can find instructions on how to make your own easy, no-sew portrait ornaments. It’s fun to see these published. I made a Christmas ornament for my girls each year when they were growing up. (I documented each of them on this blog last year, one per day beginning on November 28.) I made the portrait ornaments in 2009, the same year I filmed the “Making Faces” DVD. The girls want me to keep making them! [ ... ]

Give away: winner of Cosmic Jewels pattern

I pinned my work in progress to my “design wall” which is actually just a piece of styrofoam covered with black fabric. I mostly use it when I take photos of my quilts, so it is not permanently mounted anywhere. That way I can move it around to wherever the light is best. Anyway, Saturday I spent a little time trimming each of the squares so they were each 4″ square. I’m hoping that will make my finished piece more accurate. Then I pinned the blocks up so I could stand back and see if I wanted to [ ... ]

Give away: pattern and Debbie Maddy workshop

Tuesday and Wednesday my guild had Debbie Maddy do two workshops and a trunk show. She brought seven suitcases full of quilts! Wow! I suspect every quilt I’ve ever made could have fit in juast one of those suitcases. Most of her patterns use her method for making diamonds with no “Y” seams. This lets even beginners make striking quilts and they go together quickly. On Wednesday I had the opportunity to take her Cosmic Jewels workshop. She was very informative, and I loved her Texan accent! I don’t do a lot of piecing, [ ... ]
