Stitched, the Film

Yesterday at our SAQA parlour meeting we got to watch Stitched. It is a documentary on the current quilt world. It specifically features Caryl Bryer Fallert, Hollis Chatelain, and Randall Cook. It follows them through a full year as they each create a quilt for the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I’ve been looking forward to seeing this film. I’ve heard so many good things about it. What no one told me is that several times throughout the movie, you can see my quilt, Captivated! I was stunned and [ ... ]

Two fat envelopes!

My mailbox revealed two fat envelopes today! Both “Captivated” and “Sheer Whim” have been selected as finalists and will be exhibited at the 2010 International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. I’ve been entering this show nearly every year since 1998. “First December in Ohio” was the first quilt I every had accepted into the IQF show. 2010 NQA show

Plus, I was thrilled that my quilt, “Captivated,” won an honorable mention ribbon. Yeah!

This time I brought “Captivated.” I thought it was interesting that some thought this piece represented a step backwards from other things I had been doing recently. That’s actually true because I designed and started the quilt [ ... ]

Captivated Wins!

My quilt guild, the Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild, had their show this past weekend. It was so much fun seeing all the quilts! At this show, instead of having a judge, each viewer is given a ballot so they can choose their favorite in each category. I was thrilled when “Captivated” won the viewers’ choice award for the Art Quilt category. There were a wide variety including traditional pieced and appliqued bed quilts as well as wall hangings and art quilts. This year there was also a special section to show quilts made during workshops or for guild challenges. [ ... ]
