Columbus Modern Quilt Guild

Last night I had the great pleasure of sharing my quilts with the Columbus Modern Quilt Guild. In fact, I was having so much fun, I completely forgot to take pictures! They’ve only been meeting for a year now, so they are a small group and I was their first speaker, and it was a real honor. I spent a lot of time talking about how I work on overcoming my fear of failure through experimenting. In some ways, I see experimentation and a sense of adventure as a core characteristic of the [ ... ]

Bloggers’ Quilt Festival

Bloggers’ Quilt Festival :: Spring 2011 starts today! This is a fun opportunity to see loads of quilts without leaving the comfort of your own home. If you have a blog, I hope you might join in the fun, too. Since Mother’s Day was just a few days ago, I thought this would be a good time to share my “Broken Dishes” quilt. Traditional quilt blocks and their whimsical names have always captured my imagination, and the Broken Dishes block especially caught my attention. I liked the simplicity of the block, too. I had this image [ ... ]

Addicted to Things Organized Neatly

Several months ago I stumbled across a blog called Things Organized Neatly, and it immediately struck a chord with me. Today’s post showing a color wheel of crayons really made me smile, and I thought some of you would like it too. I only wish I had thought of it first! I confess that I love order and repetition. I love my drawers with spool after spool of thread, my neat stacks of fat quarters sorted by color, and my rotary rulers hung by size. Okay, I’ve gotta quit blogging now, and get back to preparing. I’m on Stash Manicure

I’m the guest blogger on Stash Manicure today. Madame Samm invites lots of guest bloggers to be part of her blog. There’s always something to see or read that is inspiring! She said I could talk about anything I wanted, and there was no limit to the number of words. You know, that makes it a lot harder! Where do I start? What do I say? I settled for a simple introduction. I like simple. Hope you’ll enjoy it, too.

Broken Dishes shout out

Wayne Kollinger gave me a very nice shout out on his blog today. He saw my “Broken Dishes” quilt and really liked it. Wayne has a great blog that explores traditional quilt blocks. He stretches and distorts them, plays with the coloring, and shows how to draft them. I felt an immediate kinship with his website because I did computer drafting for 17 years. Thanks so much, Wayne!

Quilting Daily

Pokey Bolton gave me a nice shout out today! On her Quilting Daily blog she was talking about various ways to use digital images on quilts and she showed a picture of “Violinist” and talked about my “Making Faces” DVD Workshop. I had to giggle because she said I was “famous” and called my method “ingenious.” Isn’t she sweet? I admit, it is a fun and easy method to make really cool portraits. Anyway, thanks, Pokey! If you’re visiting because of Pokey’s mention, thanks for coming and I hope you’ll stay a while.

Subversive Stitchers

Today Dawn Goldsmith of Subversive Stitchers:Women Armed with Needles discussed traditional and modern sampler quilts, and she featured my quilt, “In Answer to Prayer.” This quilt was my very first original quilt, and also my first quilt featuring a person. I first realized that quilts could include people after seeing the work of Charlotte Warr Andersen. Drawing people and portraits have always been my favorite subject matter, so it was exciting to be able to put my two interests together. Seeing Charlotte’s quilts prompted me to want to experiment. “In Answer to Prayer” was the result. This [ ... ]
