Published: Color Confidence

This weekend I got my August/September 2011 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine. Inside is my five-page article entitled “Color Confidence: Master Color Theory with an Easy Wall Hanging.” In it I explain basic color theory in easy to understand terms. My goal is for quilters to become more comfortable and confident in their color combinations. It also explains one way to use a color wheel. While commercial color wheels are extremely helpful, I encourage you to make your own out of fabric swatches, if you haven’t done [ ... ]

Quilting Arts TV Series 800

I got my complementary copy of the Quilting Arts TV Series 800 DVD in the mail. Watch for me on Episode 810! You can check online to see if Quilting Arts TV is on your local PBS station, or you can purchase your own copy of Series 800 from Interweave. My segment was just a short explanation of color theory. It’s amazing how fast time flies when they’re filming, and Pokey is asking questions, and I’m just trying to remember the important stuff! I brought [ ... ]

Published: In Stitches eMag

The third volume of Quilting Arts In Stitches emagazine just came out. This is a digital magazine that is available for PCs or Macs. This issue is packed with some really big names! People I’d like to take classes from. People like Gwen Hedley, Leni Levenson Wiener, Lisa Call, Judy Perez, Natalya Aikens, Barbara Barrick McKie, Terry Grant, Lisa Shepard Stewart, and Candy Glendening. I’m torn! I want to read every article right away, but I’m on a deadline [ ... ]

Published: quick and easy silhouette quilts

The June/July 2011 issue of Quilting Arts magazine arrived in my mailbox yesterday. Wow! What an issue! If you’re interested in making quilted portraits, this is THE issue to get. So many different methods, so many different artists. I was thrilled to have my little Quick and Easy Silhouette Quilts article included. I started making silhouettes last fall because I wanted a very easy method that even absolute beginners could make. I also wrote a couple tutorials for making a single silhouette or a family silhouette. The article gives additional information, too. These make great [ ... ]

Published: Make your own thread storage unit

I just got back from being away for a week (more about that later). Waiting on my coffee table, welcoming me home, was Cloth Paper Scissors’s Summer 2011 Studios magazine. A quick flip to page 21 and you’ll find my instructions for building your own custom thread storage unit! I know I mentioned it recently, but I’m pretty excited about it. I’ve been using mine for about four months now, and I love it! I’m hoping other people will enjoy it too. I was a little disappointed with the editing because they renumbered the steps, so [ ... ]

Published: Studios magazine

I’m excited! A double whammy! I just saw that the Summer 2011 Studios magazine is available for preorder, or the digital version is available immediately. My instructions for a do-it-yourself thread cabinet are in that issue! If you go to the link and see the phrase “Instructions for Making a Customized Thread Organizer,” that’s my article! I admit I’m completely addicted to anything that organizes. I love nice, neat little rows of things. I’m not saying my life is actually like that! It just resonates within me. So, I naturally fell in love with Studios magazine [ ... ]

Published: Machine Quilting Unlimited

I got the May 2011 issue of Machine Quilting Unlimited in the mail today, and I quickly flipped to the back page. There she is! Sheer Whim is the “Jaw Dropper” for that issue. Isn’t that exciting?!

Published: Quilting Arts In Stitches eMag

I’ve been fairly quiet online the last week or so, but I’ve been busy behind the scenes. Now that I’ve met my deadline, I thought I’d give you a glimpse of what I’ve been up to, but I can’t give you any specific details yet. Jane Davila of Quilting Arts In Stitches eMag asked me to write a short article for the April 2011 issue. She wanted me to explain how I quilt faces. That was pretty amazing and fairly scary too. Because this is a digital magazine, they wanted me to include a short video. I’ve never [ ... ]
