Spending a Day with Beth Schillig

Today I had the privilege of spending the day with Beth Schillig. What a treat! She has an extensive background with sewing, including 25 years owning a Bernina distributorship. Her machine quilting is flawless. I got to examine her amazing “Sunset Serenade,” which will be going to this year’s International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. You can see a detail of this quilt below. Each flower is made of a multitude of tiny pieces and then beaded. The machine quilting creates a lot of movement. She also showed me a portrait she made of her mother and a beautiful Jacobean applique.

We enjoyed several hours talking about quilt-related things going on in Ohio, SAQA, various quilt shows, teaching, favorite threads and battings, and so much more. I got to show off my studio and a few of my quilts. It was a wonderful way to spend a day. Thanks, Beth!
