Woohoo! Today is a happy day! I just received notification that “Windblown” and “Embrace 1” have been selected as finalists for the 2011 International Quilt Festival in Houston. If I do nothing else during the year, this is the one show I always try to enter, so I’m very excited about this!

This is the first time that IQA has used email to notify finalists. Seems like a great idea! Congratulations to all of the other finalists.

Looking at these two quilts side by side, I think it’s pretty funny that even though these two quilts are very different in style and one was started about seven months after the other, the color schemes are very similar. What makes it even funnier is that I’m not particularly fond of orange. So, what was I thinking? I guess I was trying to stretch myself and explore a few colors other than blue, although blue still made it into each of the quilts ๐Ÿ™‚

Today has been a pretty good work day, so I better get back to it. I have the labels printed for these two quilts and now I need to attach them.

  1. Two very deserving entries for the show. I especially love Windblown — I think it is because it reminds me of my daughter at that age with her long curly red hair. I’m sure you will do well in Houston. I know all the viewers will love these!

  2. Beautiful, love both!!!

  4. Hooray! I would have been shocked if they didn’t get in. They are both stunning. I think that Windblown looks like a Blue Ribbon for sure.
