IQF portrait quilts, part 4

Here are two more joy-filled quilts that I saw at the International Quilt Festival in Houston last week. Both are by artists that I eagerly look forward to seeing.

Joy (Lovebirds Three) by Phyllis Cullen
I love seeing the work of Phyllis Cullen, and “Joy (Lovebirds Three)” is no exception. She uses raw edge applique to create wonderful artwork filled with vivid colors. I’m sorry my poor photography doesn’t show the true colors better. Just look at the expressions on the faces below. You can feel the pure joy as they hold their newborn child.

Laughing With Uncle Pete by Teri McHale
Teri McHale does beautiful work, too. I like how closely she cropped the two faces in this piece. It just draws me in and makes me want to know what they are laughing about.

(As mentioned previously, according to IQA’s quilt photography rules, “If you post your photos to your personal web site, you must include appropriate credit for each quilt artist, and note that the photos were taken at International Quilt Festival.”)
