b&l-14You may have noticed that I am actively avoiding Step 2 of Plan B. You know, the part where I actually paint something. Instead, I was kind of enjoying the simple black and white outline.

While I was looking at the image, it made me think of my mother-in-law, “Grandma Ellie” to our daughters. This picture was taken years ago in her front garden. That’s when my mind connected the two ideas: Grandma Ellie’s garden and the Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt block. I wondered what the image of the two girls would look like in front of a Grandmother’s Flower Garden (GFG) backdrop. Hmmm … I kind of liked that idea.

At first I thought of trying it with the typical 30’s reproduction prints, but I don’t have any of those. But as I was enjoying the black and white outline, I remembered that I had a big stack of black and white prints. So, last night I started cutting out GFG blocks and placing them on the quilt top. I haven’t cut them around the figures yet because I’m still shuffling the prints around to various locations. For the photo above, I just merged two images so I could see what it would look like once they are cut to fit around the girls.

I think I like it. I’m going to finish cutting these out and then I promise to quit procrastinating and start painting.

  1. I know that avoidance feeling when things get tricky. That’s why I am at the computer now! Keep going, your work is fabulous.
