Collect, don’t hoard

steel-like-an-artistThis morning I started reading “Steal Like an Artist” by Austin Kleon. I have barely started it, but this quote pretty much sums up the attitude I need to adopt.

The artist is a collector. Not a hoarder, mind you, there’s a difference: Hoarders collect indiscriminately, artists collect selectively. They only collect things that they really love.

I think that pretty much sums up this past week of purging and decluttering. I come from a long line of hoarders. Now I am trying to purposefully be more selective of the things I allow to come into my studio.

  1. I read this book recently too. I also am a third generation recovering hoarder. But I loved the way Kleon looks at things!
