There were about thirty women at the retreat this year, and each one brought something to share, so I could go on and on, but I think this is enough for now.
AQN Retreat Day 2
The second day of the Art Quilt Network retreat began with more members sharing the work they brought. There was so much to see! Ann Rebele showed two of her New Orleans series. She has made five so far, and one of them (not shown) has been accepted into this year’s Quilt National show. She combines photos overlayed with images hand drawn on silk organza. Very beautiful and haunting.
I had the priviledge of sitting next to Marla Hattabaugh. Marla does handquilting for Nancy Crow, and it was a joy to see her beautifully hand quilting. She showed some really fun pieces from her giraffe series.
Sidnee Snell showed her quilt, “Arrivals.” She works with images that she first manipulates in a digital editing program, similar to one of my approaches. Her quilt has such a wonderful textural surface, I just wanted to pet it a bit, but I kept my hands off. Sidnee was lots of fun getting to know, it’s too bad she lives so far away in Oregon.
Sue Cavanaugh brought one of her shibori pieces. Sue is so friendly and encouraging and she always has such nice things to say. Thank you, Sue! Her piece is simply fabulous! She has a piece (not shown) in Quilt National this year, too.
