Bloggers’ Quilt Festival :: Spring 2011 starts today! This is a fun opportunity to see loads of quilts without leaving the comfort of your own home. If you have a blog, I hope you might join in the fun, too.
Since Mother’s Day was just a few days ago, I thought this would be a good time to share my “Broken Dishes” quilt.
Traditional quilt blocks and their whimsical names have always captured my imagination, and the Broken Dishes block especially caught my attention. I liked the simplicity of the block, too. I had this image in my mind for several years before I made this quilt. I prefer making quilts with positive messages. With this quilt, I hope to express the message that love and forgiveness conquers all. You can read more about my “Broken Dishes” quilt on this page.

OMG!! I seriously was looking going, “where’s the quilt”. “that’s a beautiful painting, but where’s the quilt”? When I clicked on your link and got more detail, I’m totally floored! Stunning stunning work!
Oh, this is so lovely and sweet and every Mom can relate to the emotion in it.
Another trademark Maria beautiful quilt. Reminds me of your Ohio stars quilt. Thanks for sharing.
An amazing piece of art! Such detail and beautifully made.
This is such a beautiful quilt. Your work is stunning. Great message and wonderful symbolism!
Spectacular and stunning! I love how you captured the color on the jeans, absolutely magnificant.
this is so beautiful. I love the emotion and the art that went into the detail the the mother and daughter. wow. I have often thought about making a quilt like that using my childrens faces. I have been afraid, I don’t know that I could do it. It is lovely you quilt. congrats.
Absolutely stunning! I’m amazed at the detail.
I saw this quilt when you first posted it and have to say it really took my breath away. It is such a lovely, lovely piece. But then, ALL of your quilts are!
Maria, your work has been an inspiration to me for some time. I love it. I have a fondness for “Madonna” pieces, which this brings to mind. And the shading of the “halo” effect really sets off the familiar scene, as does the hint of circles spinning in your broken dish pattern, reminding us of 70 x70 opportunities to forgive or comfort.
WOW! this is such an amazing quilt! I am so amazed at the creative process you used!
Beautiful quilt!
This is a lovely quilt. I like the way the background looks like a patch quilt and the circle of light in it sets it off. Beautiful, Beautiful stitchery also. I am learning fused applique more and more. This is a great Mother’s Day quilt. Every day mother with child.
absolutely stunning! your quilt is great in so many ways. i will have to try your ideas. thanks so very much for sharing and have a great day
I’m speechless right now! All I can say is WOW!! This is just incredible!
What an amazing quilt, really beautiful. The detail that has gone into it is unreal
Fabulous. As a mother of three daughters, I really love your quilt.
This quilt is truly spectacular –a true work of art! I’m blown away by every aspect of this quilt –from the message, to the piecing, to the quilting. Truly, this might be the most beautiful quilt I’ve ever seen. You should be very proud!
This is amazing. It looks like a painting. Amazing work!!!
Alright you win! I thought the quilt was a real set of two people standing in front of the quilt when I saw this in the list of quilts–he,he! Gorgeous, gorgeous work!! Thanks for sharing!
I have to say I was floored by this one too. When I saw the little pic on amy’s site, I was like, why is she hiding the quilt with that pic of people? Wowee!! you do stunning work. Off to read more about your work!!
Cheers!

This is a beautiful rendition of the broken dishes block! This is the kind of quilt one needs to see in person, close up, to appreciate all the detail.
I LOVE this quilt – it is amazing how much emotion you captured, and how sweet this quilt is. I’m already following you on Google reader – if not, I would follow you now!
What a fantastic quilt! The traditional blocks are great, but the picture and the theme really raise the bar. Brava.
Absolute gorgeous! Great quilt!
O wow; this is beautiful! You are not only a quilter, you are an artist.
Wow – this is quite lovely! I love how you married the traditional and art quilt together – PLUS tell a story – what more can you want?! LOVE it!
This just takes my breath away. I love the combination of traditional/art quilt, and how you tell a story. Absolutely brilliant.
I have to agree with others when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was people in front of the quilt. TRULY AMAZING! You are so talented.
Holy cow. That is so awesome. It is wonderful in so many ways – it is flat out beautiful, first of all. But so relatable (is that a word?) and it captures the emotion of the moment so well. Bravo! You should consider submitting it to a show or something!
Wow! Amazing work!
Well done!
This is so amazing! I have seen other quilts that were made based on a photo of a pet or person, but I have never seen one that was so lifelike. Being a mother and a grandmother, I especially love the tenderness this image evokes – it is just gorgeous!
Wow! Lovely
Absolutely amazing work!
Stunning quilt, love your work!!!
Speechless!!
I love it!
Maria, your work is amazing. One day I hope to do a pictorial, and if I’m really good, it may be a fraction as nice as yours. Love this quilt!

Wow, this is stunning and I can completely relate to this right now. I have a teenage daughter we are struggling with and just the other day, I just hugged her (much to her dismay – lol) and hugged her tight and told her how much we loved her. I can only pray it got through.
I even have dark hair and she is blond. 🙂 I’m off to read more about it now. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is absolutely stunning! A true work of art. Thanks for sharing.
Your quilt is absolutely amazing! I wish I could sew&quilt like you:)
Maria,
You are truly an artist- what great detail and a beautiful tribute to mother’s and daughters.
