I was priviledged to be the featured speaker for the Decatur Quilt Festival recently. It was sponsored by the Decatur Quilters Guild. They held their show at the Decatur Civic Center. It was such a beautiful venue to showcase the 300 quilts that were on display.
They had even more quilts draped over the banister along the walkway overlooking the venue.
They gave me space to display some of my own quilts.
Sweet hubby had a blast bragging on me and answering questions. I lectured on color in quiltmaking and I also did an electronic trunk show of my own quilts.
In addition to lecturing, I had a blast teaching my Playful Portraits workshop. We had so much fun! Here are a few of the portraits that were made.
I also wanted to share the Viewers’ Choice / Best of Show quilt, called “Spring Shadows”, made by Joy Voltenburg. She also won first place in Appliqued quilts. Isn’t that nice machine quilting? Here is a close up. Very nice!
The only glitch in the whole weekend was the 12″ of snow that Decatur received during the weekend we were there. We had to cut our workshop short so people could still drive home safely. The next morning, sweet hubby faithfully dug out Li’l Bit so we were could get to our next engagement on time. And people wonder why I don’t want to travel alone!
Thank you, Linda, for hostessing us, and for everyone else who worked at organizing all this!

Really like the display panels of your quilts…are you bringing it foe your program for MVQG…plus real quilts as well…
Thanks, Ed! For the Miami Valley Quilt Guild program in May, I’ll bring a PowerPoint presentation along with as many quilts that are living with me at the time ๐
Love the Playful Portraits. Need to know more about those. ๐
I loved the Making Faces class, but this Playful Portrait class looks like fun too! Is this new?
I’ve been doing the Playful Portraits class for about a year, and it’s loads of fun!
Thanks for sharing the picture of my quilt Spring Shadows. I was thrilled to talk with you at the show. I wasn’t able to take your class, but I quizzed your husband about the process of making the quilts. Your quilts were fascinating and inspiring to look at.
He loves talking about my quilts! I encourage you to share “Spring Shadows” at other shows too. At a minimum, you should consider entering it in the National Quilting Association show (http://nqaquiltshow.org/Show/EntryInfo). It is a judged show, but not a juried show.
Thanks Maria. I think I will. ๐
