Painting clothing and something new

b&l-18I worked on painting the dresses yesterday. Overall, I like how they turned out, even if I still didn’t get that watercolor feeling I was envisioning. I think that effect is going to need a lot more practice when I don’t have a deadline. (The rippling you see in the photo is really the dropcloth underneath, not stripes in the fabric.)

b&l-19largerWhile I like the painted look, I had a “what if” idea that I wanted to try out. I started cutting out a couple print fabrics and incorporated them in the shadowed and highlighted areas on the dress. I really like the contrast between the gradated areas and the printed fabrics. I think the additional visual texture adds more interest.

I love this. And am fascinated with the whole process. Great work. Can’t wait to see more.

This is going to be STUNNING! It’s already amazing! Love, love, love the fabric added to the blue dress. Are the painted pieces and the background separate at this point?

    1. Margaret, it is basically a painted wholecloth quilt with fused fabric on top.

It may not be what you envisioned, but it hAs evolved into something special…love the full background and adding fabric to the painted dress is very effective…can’t wait to see the completed project…
