pushup03-03Stacy made a comment today and said she wished I had included work in progress photos of Push-up #3: Requisite Red. I totally forgot to include those! But I did take a few, so I thought I’d share them now.

In this first picture you can see how I slapped my little Log Cabin seedlings on my design wall. They were a little more haphazard at first, but they were definitely in a grid pattern. I think I am naturally drawn to grids. I played with placement a little bit to get this arrangement. If you look closely toward the center top, you can see that I’ve started connecting the seedlings with white strips.

I continued adding the little connector strips, gradating from very light gray to black as I moved outwards.

After all my seedlings were connected in vertical strips, I filled in the in between spaces with gradating colors until I got this.

pushup04-04Thank you to everyone who gave me input on what to name Push-up #4. Many people saw skyscrapers or tall buildings with windows. Another saw ladders. All of these ideas gave me the idea of something reaching upwards. I decided to call it “Reaching” since that will reflect both the idea of skyscrapers reaching to the sky and my current pursuit of reaching to learn something new, and the bright green reminds me of the color of new growth.

  1. Maria thank you so very much for posting these. I’m not a traditional type quilter so connectivity is crucial for me to see what’s going on. I think this Red quilt needs to go to a show somewhere. It’s just outstanding. Very Japanese to me, like little box lanterns floating.
    Exquisite!

    1. Thanks, Stacy!

    I agree with Stacy…your “experiments” are show-worthy, for sure…

  3. Oh, both of these are delightful! I’m on holidays right now but this post is making me itch to get on that plane and go home to my studio!
