Product Review: Fons and Porter Machine Quilting Grip Gloves

After doing a multitude of other urgent activities, I finally worked in another hour on my quilt. I decided to multitask and test out another machine quilting aid. This time I used my friend’s Fons and Porter Machine Quilting Grip Gloves. I think hers were a size small, so they didn’t really fit my hands properly. Nevertheless, I thought I’d give them a try. These gloves have rubbery polka dots on the fingertips and palms sort of like the grippy fabric used on children’s footsy pajamas. They remind me of those inexpensive gardening gloves. The big difference, I think, is the fit, and when I’m machine quilting, I certainly don’t want big, bulky, or baggy gloves, so I think these would have a big advantage. They are 100% cotton, so my hands didn’t get hot wearing them. I assume they are machine washable if they get dirty.

For the most part, I liked using them. The grippy dots help hold the fabric, but it made me wonder if I really have a problem with fabric slipping out of my hands when I’m machine quilting. I don’t think I have had that problem, so do I really need grippy dots? If you’re looking to improve your free motion quilting, I’d say they might be worth a try to see if they make a difference for you. There are plenty of great reviews on Amazon.com.
