Push-up #8: A.D.D. Complete!

Push-up #8: A.D.D. by Maria ElkinsIt’s about time! I finally finished Push-up #8! With all of the activities and distractions in my life this year, it took me nearly four months. It seemed appropriate to subtitle the piece, “A.D.D.”

In any case, I woke up this morning and I was determined to finish it today. I managed to set aside my fear for a good number of hours and tried to just enjoy the process. Of course, I still battled that old enemy, fear. Isn’t that silly? After all, it’s just a piece of fabric, right? That’s what I always tell myself. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it doesn’t.

No matter. It’s done, and I’m ready to move on. I just need to straighten up the huge mess I made and decide what to focus on next.

Thanks for inspiring me, Maria. I enjoy your work, but I think the biggest inspiration is that you admit you still have fear. Sounds just like me! (And aren’t you the one that tells me it’s just fabric?) Keep moving forward and inspiring us!

    1. Yep, that’s me 🙂

  2. Glad to know I’m not the only one who experiences fear with quilting! It’s beautiful, Maria! Such incredible detail!

Maria…I have enjoyed your “push-ups”…we are all “stronger” for your exercises…
No. 2 (which I like least of all) looks better in the original format, but unlike those who see vertical the ones as “rugs” I have the opposite view…in the vertical format I get more a feel of the various design elements…to me, the individual elements seem to “drain” out the bottom…I don’t think these pieces really need elaborate quilting, just something “in the ditch” here and there would be sufficient…they all deserve public display in some venue…

I forgot to mention, No. 1 looks great either way…
