My daughter, Lydia, and I share a common characteristic: we both become captivated by the books we read and everything else fades away! Another trait we share is that neither of us particularly like having our pictures taken. So, while I was busy trying to snap pictures for a different project, Lydia was busy trying to hide behind the book she was reading. I loved the resulting image! The secondary inspiration was a fantasy story she began writing in high school. It featured the adventures of a prince and a stable boy who escape from the confines of the castle and the over-protective king.
This quilt is fused applique and free motion quilted. I also enjoy incorporated traditional quilt patterns in my art quilts. In the foreground the green and yellow quilt is a Single Irish Chain. The quilt block used in the sky is called "Compass."
