My faithful mailman delivered the June/July 2012 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine to me yesterday. This is their “Staycation” issue, and there are lots of ideas of things you can try this summer. I especially liked Lyric Kinard’s article on finding your voice as an artist. That’s a journey I’ve been on for quite some time. Many people are surprised when I say I’m still trying to develop my voice, but that is one reason I keep looking for different products to experiment with. I have a style, a feeling for how I want to create art, something nebulous in my mind and I still haven’t been able to reproduce it in fabric. Someday, I believe I will hit on just the right thing, but I don’t feel like I’ve found it yet.
Speaking of experimenting, this issue has my experiments with four different batik resist mediums. That was a fun project to play with, and one that I hope to revisit this summer. I really liked stamping with the resists, and even stenciling with them, but I was disappointed with not being able to draw with it like I imagined.
You can read about another one of my resist experiments on my post about painting a special silk fabric which I used to make a baby belly blanket I made for my daughter.

Great article, such helpful information. First thing I turned to when I got my hands on the magazine!
