Wedding photos

Do you have wedding photos? The very first wedding I ever attended was my own, and I was 19. I didn’t know people paid huge sums of money to get lots of fancy pictures done by someone who actually knew what they were doing. We had a friend of a friend take snapshots and we just paid for a few rolls of film and processing. My new husband and I were very poor, so we only had a handful of pictures printed. Somewhere, in the attic of our home, in some long-forgotten box, we still have the negatives. This is one of the snapshots from our wedding. DD#1 will be wearing that same dress that I made and wore to my wedding. Sweet hubby is standing funny because, under his bright, white tuxedo, his leg is in a full-leg cast. But that’s another story. What’s really important is that, despite the lack of pretty pictures, we are thankfully still married after 31 years!

Anyway, I digress…

For the last six months, while we’ve been snapping up vintage picture frames from our favorite thrift store, we’ve also been harassing both sides of the family in an attempt to gather as many ancestor wedding photos as we can find. Since DD#1 is doing a vintage theme for her wedding, we want to use these to create a pretty display, along with a few other select family heirlooms.

I think we’ve done pretty well. We’ve actually collected thirteen family photos. Eight of them are from the couples’ wedding. We did have a pretty good start, thanks to an uncle who has done extensive genealogy research. The oldest photo of the bunch is dated 1876. It is the photo of the couple positioned just under my wedding photo.

DD#1 has been doing the scanning and photo-editing over the last several weeks. DD#2 and I spent a good portion of yesterday cleaning up all those frames, and getting the pictures sorted, identified, printed, and put into the frames. Why didn’t I realize how much time it would all take before we decided to do this extra “little” project? Just the same, I’m glad we did it. Now I just need to create the little information labels for each one.

All that you’ve written and photographed here (and I only saw part of the last year) is breathtaking. You are a resourceful, creative, and loving mother/wife/daughter and you’ve been through quite a year! We are looking forward to seeing all of you.
