We had several friends over to share our meal. We ended up with ten people in all. Our dining room isn’t quite that big, so we re-arranged the house and moved the dining room table into the living room, and we moved the chairs from the living room into the dining room. It worked out wonderfully, other than the fact that it is harder to scoot your chair in and out when it’s on carpet.
The dining room table we have is one that my parents gave us as a wedding gift nearly thirty years ago. It is a beautiful teakwood table that has a hidden extension on each end. When fully extended it fits ten comfortably. Stratedically I have one table cloth that fits when fully extended. Inviting a full table full of guests gives me an excuse to pull out all my blue and white things. I have a purposefully mis-matched set of blue and white dishes that I’ve enjoyed collecting through the years. I bought sparkling apple cider so we would have a reason use those beautiful cobalt blue goblets and a set of rare cobalt blue Tupperware wine glasses. I bought the Tupperware glasses thinking that when we have grandkids, they would be able to join in using fancy glasses and no one would have to worry about things breaking. Just one of the reasons I love Tupperware!
I also found a stack of mis-matched blue and white cloth napkins. Some are ones I made when the girls and I were doing tea parties after school. It made me think we should just start using them on a daily basis. Something to think about…
I also dug out all of my blue serving dishes and serving utensils. And then, with the backdrop of all that lovely blue, the table got a lot more colorful when the food was brought in!
