No more procrastinating! I just finished pin basting my current work in progress. Today I start quilting!
I tried something new (to me) this time. I want some areas of trapunto, and I wanted to do it as easy as possible, so I am using two battings. I’m using Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 Cotton Blend on the bottom and Heirloom Washable Wool on top. (From left to right, the picture shows my quilt top, the wool batting, the cotton/poly batting, and the backing.) I know wool will compress under close stitching and puff up when stitched further apart, so I hope to use that to my advantage to create some trapunto designs.
I just realized that this is probably the first quilt I’ve made where everything has come out of my stash. Yeah! I’m in “use-it-up” mode, so this is great.
In the meantime, I’m linking to Freshly Pieced: Work in Progress Wednesday.

Are those pinmores? I really want to order some of those. The quilt looks remarkable. I will definately be back to check the progress on this. I am not an art quilter but I am inspired by works like yours. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, I’m using Pinmoors. I did a product review on them here, http://mariaelkins.com/index.php/2011/03/pinmoor-product-review/
This is an amazing sneak peak at what looks to be an amazing art quilt! I too am in a use it up mode as I have banned buying fabric! Good luck with the quilting process!
I can’t wait to see this finished…
Ohhh never tried pin basting like that – might have to give it a go! And yeah isn’t using everything from your stash nice? Plus you don’t have to wait to buy or order something – very cool!! Its coming great!
Can’t wait to see it finished. Nice that you are using up your stash. I also am trying to do so. Seems like it will never be down. LOL
Can’t wait to see this one done, just a tiny bit of a tease. Leaves me wanting to see more!!
This sure looks intriguing can’t wait to see a little bit more and hear how the quilting goes. Happy quilting Chris.
I’m finally able to comment again. Sorry for the delay. I find basting with pinmoors really speeds the process up. This looks really intriguing, can’t wait to see your quilting!
