I just opened the June/July 2013 issue of Quilting Arts today and eagerly read Martha Sielman’s article, “Creating Realistic Portraits.” Obviously, a topic near and dear to my heart.
In the article, she explored three specific areas, “capturing someone’s personality through their eyes, creating hands that do not look awkward or out of scale, and quilting the work without creating unwanted wrinkles.” She illustrated her article with quilts made by Jenny Bowker, Lora Rocke, Mary Pal, Cheryl Ferrin, and my quilt, “Windblown.”
Of course, there’s lots of other great stuff in this issue, too!
I’m happy to say that I have one issue of this Quilting Arts Magazine to give away! If you’d like a chance to win it, just leave a comment below, and in a couple days I’ll pick a winner by the Random Number Generator.
This give away is now complete.

Hi Maria, I love your work and have your making faces DVD but am still waiting for the inspiration (and time) to use it. I’d love to have a copy of Quilting Arts with this article. These are all areas I feel unsure about.
Thanks for the chance to get it free; if I don’t win I’ll look for the issue. ๐

You are such an inspiration! When I grow up, I want to be like you! LOL. I absolutely LOVE your work. Congratulations on “Windblown” being included.
I could use some help generating realistic portraits, so count me in!
Wolld love to get the magazine…OK on the portrait article, but the headline on mono-prints caught my eye… I was wondering the other day if you had done mono-prints on fabric…I think I would like to try that…
