Coloring Grandma's Garden by Maria Elkins

The 2014 Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild show ended yesterday. It was a great success! From everything I could see, there was a lot of participation and attendance was good. I always love seeing the wide variety of quilts. Everyone from the newest newbie to the most experienced quilter is welcome to enter their quilts. There were also a wide variety of styles, from a couple of counted cross-stitch quilts, many … Continue reading

My two daughters and I just got back from seeing the 2014 Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild show. If you’re in the area, it is well worth the trip to Xenia, Ohio. The bright, airy room is beautifully laid out and it’s packed full of quilts! Beautiful quilts of all kinds. Coloring Grandma’s Garden is at the show. This is the first show it’s been in. Demo for Miami Valley Quilter’s Guild

Last night, my quilt guild, the Miami Valley Quilter’s Guild, had their annual “How-To” Demonstrations meeting. Four members demonstrated various techniques or skills. I volunteered to demo how to make a hanging sleeve. Our guild has its biannual quilt guild show next May, so I encouraged everyone to enter a quilt. We have a really good group of ladies. I made 80 copies of my instructions, and we ran several … Continue reading

Miami Valley Art Quilt Network

On Saturday afternoon, I had the pleasure of going to a Miami Valley Art Quilt Network meeting to show my quilts. I’ve enjoyed getting to know several of these talented ladies over the years, and I got to know a few new ones, too. Because it was a small group, we had a lot of fun doing a long question and answer period, and I got to describe a little … Continue reading

Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild

Tuesday night, I had the opportunity to present a trunk show to my own quilt guild, the Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild. I have been a part of this quilt guild since around 1997. I have been so blessed to be a part of this guild. They bring in top name quilters and have great workshops. They have a terrific library of books that are available to borrow. I learned much … Continue reading

Winners from the 2012 MVQG show

The Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild met last night, and they announced the winners from last weekend’s show. Our guild doesn’t use a panel of judges to pick the winners. Instead, each person that comes to the show is given a ballot as they enter, and they get to vote on their favorite quilt in each category. I always enjoy learning what quilts the average viewer picks since they are a … Continue reading

We see many of these quilts during the show-and-tell portion of our monthly meetings, but it is such a treat to see them all at once, up close and personal. We have many really talented quilters in our group. I love to examine the beautiful quilting. … Continue reading
