A little less play, a little more work

It’s about time for me to report back on my “clean the studio” task. I’m happy to say that I’ve played a little less the last few days so I could work on cleaning the studio. Again, why? Why do I let it get this way? Who knows if I will ever quit letting my studio become unusable. But in the meantime, I actually did some work! Sometimes it is … Continue reading

All play and no work

It’s been all play and no work lately. Isn’t that what grandmas do? So, how does my studio get so messed up if I’m not even doing anything in there? Well, I need some major motivation! I figure if I tell you how messy my studio is, then I’ll have an urgent reason to get it cleaned up, just so I can report back in a few days. So here … Continue reading

Modifying George

My blog has been quiet lately because I have been fully focused on a secret project. The worst thing about secret projects is that I can’t share my step-by-step progress with you. Suffice it to say, I had a short deadline, so I was highly motivated and, therefore, highly focused. There were a few hurdles I had to conquer with this deadline. First, this quilt is 83″ square, which is … Continue reading

Collect, don’t hoard

This morning I started reading “Steal Like an Artist” by Austin Kleon. I have barely started it, but this quote pretty much sums up the attitude I need to adopt. The artist is a collector. Not a hoarder, mind you, there’s a difference: Hoarders collect indiscriminately, artists collect selectively. They only collect things that they really love. I think that pretty much sums up this past week of purging and … Continue reading

Decluttering – victory!

I’m declaring victory in the decluttering war! Okay, honestly there are a few more areas that I should address, but frankly I am ready to stop for now. I’ve made major progress and I feel like I can work in my studio again. Today I decluttered all the little drawers in the card catalog drawers and the two units of little drawers. I also purged my studio of a lot … Continue reading

Decluttering, day 6

Saturday I got some more accomplished on my task to declutter my studio. Who am I kidding? Clutter sounds so trivial, like a paper here, a pencil there. No, I meant I was determined to completely go through everything in the studio and purge it of things that I am no longer using. For me, that takes some brain effort! I have to actually think about each object, or at … Continue reading

Decluttering, day 5

I was blessed to have quite a few hours available to declutter yesterday! I have finished going through everything in my three storage cupboards. During this week, I got rid of about 1-1/2 cupboards full of stuff. Everything in the middle cupboard and the top half of the third cupboard used to be in other parts of my studio, mostly on the floor blocking the walkway! I still have some … Continue reading

Decluttering, day 4

Today is Day 4 of decluttering my studio. This is where I stopped yesterday after I continued work in cupboard #2. I didn’t have a lot of time, but I thought I would take just a few moments to organize all that fabric in some meaningful fashion. This is by no means all of my fabric! A good portion of this was purchased so I could focus on making more … Continue reading
