So, if the bride is wearing a patchwork of hand-me-downs that are 30 and 40 years old, and the bridesmaids are wearing curtains and tablecloths, what should the groom wear? A bridesmaid skirt, of course!
Several months back I snagged a size 16 Tall, David’s Bridal, burgundy bridesmaid skirt at our favorite thrift store. I didn’t know what we would use it for, but it was just the right color. It turns out that it perfectly matches the curtain fabric we’re using for the bridesmaids’ dresses. And there is plenty of usable fabric, along with matching lining.
I picked the Folkwear Vintage Vest pattern that will compliment the top hat the groom wants to wear, and it will stay in the overall vintage-inspired theme of the wedding. We’re toying around with the idea of making bow ties out of the burgundy fabric, too. I’ll have to see if there’s enough time for such frivolity.
I was laughing as I sewed this today. I felt a little like the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella who turned the silly mice into four majestic horses, a pumpkin into a beautiful, shining coach, and the loyal dog into a coachman.
DD#2 is graciously modeling the vest for you here, since the future groom wasn’t available.

Luv it! Larry said, “I bet the groom wouldn’t have been available even if you had asked.”
